General Educational Development (GED) allows adult 18 years and
older and who are not enrolled in public school to earn a high
school diploma through taking tests rather than completing courses.
Upon successful completion of the GED test, a candidate is awarded a
State of Florida high school diploma and considered a high school
graduate.
Before taking the GED, students must first take the
Test
of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and score in the ninth grade or higher
on the Advanced or Difficult level of this test to be eligible to
register for the GED.
The GED test is comprised of five subtests: writing skills,
social studies, science, interpreting literature and the arts, and
mathematics. GED examinees must score a minimum total of 2250
points, and a minimum of 410 points on each of the five subtests.
Students 16 and 17 years old may request to take the
Official
Practice Test (OPT) to obtain an age waiver.
We offer GED classes Monday – Thursday for eligible students.
Classes at HML Adult are provided in both English and Spanish to
assist students in preparing to take the test in either language.
